While merging a maintenance branch into a trunk, I found that a senior “consultant” checked in both .NET framework and project assemblies into source control, what the *!@#$%^&

I am amazed that many software consultants do not understand the basic principles of source control. Is source control knowledge and experience too much to expect from a software consultant?

Also, why do so-called “experienced” source control users append a version or date to documents checked into source control? The source control software versions the documents. Arggh!

The Nevada State Athletic Commission has published the purses for UFC 79. The purses for St-Pierre, Hughes, and Silva on the main card are inline with previous events, but I am surprised to learn of Liddell’s purse.

Chuck Liddell earned a purse of $500,000 for his bout with Wanderlei Silva! I have not confirmed, but it is rumored that Liddell will also take home a percent of event sales too. This does not include UFC contract bonuses.

This is quite a gap compared to St-Pierre and Hughes. Liddell’s claim to fame has been the knockout, but I prefer to watch tactical fights from multi-dimensional fighters. His draw and ability to sell tickets for the UFC are factors of course. 

Below are the purses for the main event and over-hyped Liddell versus Silva bout:

• Georges St-Pierre earns $160,000
• Matt Hughes earns $100,000
• Chuck Liddell earns $500,000
• Wanderlei Silva earns $150,000

As you may know, Guitar Hero is a hot commodity. Most local retailers are sold out of the game bundle, game, and guitar controller. The Xbox 360 versions appear to be the hard to find items.

Nevertheless, I just bought the Guitar controller for Xbox 360 at Wal-mart. The retailer has the game and guitar controller for Ps2, Ps3, and Xbox 360 in stock. The Rock Band bundle for Ps2 is in stock too.

If you are looking for either the games or controllers for the top consoles, go to Wal-mart. EB Games expects Xbox 360 stock in mid-February, are you kidding? RedOctane is out of stock of Guitar Hero III, 2-player bundles, and controllers.

I purchased two 16GB iPod Touches for Christmas and needed covers, so I stopped by the local Apple store. They were out of the iSkin Touch covers, so I purchased a set of Griffin Elan Form covers at a local retailer.

All of my iPods are protected with iSkin brand covers, so I was hesitant to purchase another brand. The Griffin Elan Form covers are hard shell polycarbonate with bonded leather front and back.

I have to admit that I really like the cases. The cases are slim, fit well, and the leather and stitching look great. Installation was easy, including application of the static peel screen protector.

The only issues are the slight imperfections found in the stitching and no belt clip. If you are searching for a slim, durable, hard case for the iPod Touch, take a look at the Griffin Elan Form.

The St-Pierre versus Hughes trilogy has ended. As predicted, St-Pierre defeats Matt Hughes. Georges St-Pierre dominated Matt Hughes throughout the fight and ends it with a submission in the 2nd round. Nice!

The Liddell versus Silva fight did not live up to the hype. Liddell won by a unanimous decision, but was unable to finish Silva. Joe Rogan, Mike Goldberg, and UFC fans may think otherwise, yeah right.

I just ordered UFC 79 Nemesis on Pay-Per-View for $39.95. The pre-show interviews and comments are on now. The fights start at 7:00 pm Pacific. I will post an update later tonight.

I am continuing my research on PHP-based frameworks and other subjects, including performance tuning, caching, etc. I found a couple of presentations on the PHP.net site that I am interested in reading, but IE is NOT supported!

I am not tied to Internet Explorer and as a matter of fact, I use both IE and FireFox, but imposing such a requirement to view HTML-based presentations seems excessive considering IE accounts for 80% +/- usage share.

No problem, I can find documentation, resources, and related material elsewhere. I will not be forced to change browser, just to read two (2) year old material. Add to blacklist!

I planned to list some of my domain names on eBay tonight, but forgot it was 10 cent listing day. Any other time, I would have listed the items, but I noticed the squatters are dumping their domain names today.

I will wait a couple days and let the junk clear out, so I will have a better chance of selling my domain names. Don’t get me wrong, there are some worthy domain names on sale, but their numbers are small compared to the junk.

You know the junk … trademarks, dashes, numbers, internationalized names, etc. If you buy domain names on eBay, you know what I am referring to in this post. Check back for an update.

I encountered the following error when starting Gimp 2.4.2 for Windows, “entry point libiconv_set_relocation_prefix could not be located in … iconv.dll.” I found the file in the Gimp bin directory, so what is the problem?

I found another version of the iconv.dll library located in the system32 directory, so I replaced the file in the system32 directory with a copy of the iconv.dll file located in the Gimp bin directory, nice!

The file in my system32 directory does not have version information, but is 852kb. The iconv.dll version in the Gimp bin directory is 1.9.0 and is 876kb in size. I hope this post helps others.
